In the Jewish faith, there is a tradition of leaving a rock at the burial site of a loved one. Instead of leaving flowers which will eventually wither away, a rock is eternal as is its symbolism. The rocks symbolize the permanence of memory as well as the legacy of the person who has passed. By placing a rock, it leaves a marker showing that someone has been there to visit the grave. It also serves as remembrance of who passed, showing that their memory lives within and lives on through us.
